Regardless of where you live, you can enjoy water plants like hardy water lilies. Hardy waterlilies are among the easiest pond plants to grown. These pond plants can be grown here in America in zones 3-11. This water lily will come up every year like an old friend letting you know Spring is just around the corner. Hardy water lilies come in shades of yellow, pink, white, red, and peach.

Tropical water lilies are spectacular pond plants that can be grown outside in your water garden in all zones as long as the weather is warm enough. Tropical waterlilies like the temperature to be at least 70 degrees. If you live in areas that freeze, you can winter your tropical water lilies inside and bring them out again in the spring. Tropical water lilies are very free flowering and for the most part, very fragrant. Tropical waterlilies come in shades of white, yellow, pink, red, blue and purple. Tropical water lilies come in both day blooming and night blooming varieties.

Lotus or lotuses (ancient pond plants), can be grown anywhere in the country. Lotus have truly magnificent blossoms and can be grown in zones 3-11. Lotus are sacred in many cultures and have been cultivated for centuries. They come in shades of white, pink, red, and yellow. Lotus can only be shipped while they are dormant in late winter or early spring.

Bog plants, also known as marginal pond plants and water plants, grow in the shallow margins of ponds and streams. They are important because they add height and texture to the pond. Bog plants have interesting foliage and many sport beautiful flowers. Bog plants do best in shallow water up to 6 inches deep. Mix different bog plants in the same container for pleasing results. Bog plants come in hardy and tropical varieties. Some examples of marginals are papyrus, water iris, rushes and reeds, pickerels, carnivorous plants, and canna lilies. All water gardens should have several of these beautiful water plants.
